I have created a list of some of the things I have changed in my life in the last year to go green. I haven’t changed my life drastically to make these changes. I got a lot of help from this free booklet that i found online.
.Hardcore Recycling - I make sure that i am not throwing anything in my garbage that can/could be recycled. If in doubt I chuck it in the recycling bin....i may get in trouble for saying that!
.Change a Light Bulb - I have changed all but 6 light bulbs in my house. The lights i haven’t changed are on a dimmer switch to help cut down on the power running to them
.Compost - Simple. I bought a compost bin last year got some money back from the town of Huntsville. I think i paid $25 total. Our garbage is about 1/2 as heavy as it was last year.
.Washing line - I have installed a washing line in out back yard and through the spring-fall months we hang our washing out to dry
.Watched my water consumption - Turning off water when brushing teeth, adding heavy water bottles to my toilet tank to reduce the amount of flushing water. Installing low flow shower heads.
.Using Toxin free cleaning products - from the dishwasher to the laundry detergent, the dish soap to the glass cleaner. We have no toxin full cleaners in our house
.Collecting Rain Water - I bought a rain barrel and next to our vegetable garden I have set it up to collect the rain water off my house roof.
.Carry a Travel Mug - I have started to take a travel mug with me to work as well as carry a water bottle full of water. This cuts down on me having to drink bottled water as well as not using disposable coffee cups.
.Shop at the Thrift Store - I save money here, I support local charities and I also reuse others hand-me-downs!
.Rechargeable Batteries - I have spent some money on buying a charger and rechargeable batteries. Batteries that come with products I dispose of at our land fill site when they have Toxic waste days.
11. Converted to Compost-able Diapers - Having done some research we found gdiapers. These are great diapers that will biodegrade in about 2-3 months! We just chuck the wet ones in our compost and the soiled ones you can flush down the toilet.
